Seto

The idea of someone as uselessly benevolent as Seto frightening Kano made him laugh in earnest, doubling over with his arms wrapped around his stomach.  It’d be mean to say that out loud, though, to state how ridiculous it seemed to him that Kano would be afraid.

"You lost track of time for days?" he asked, snickering, and started shooing Kano back towards the apartment.  It was cold and wet and his friend looked too much like a drowned kitten to be out here in the darkness. "And yeah, Danchou was worried!  You know how she gets, she tried to hide it, but…"

Anyone who wasn’t the two of them probably wouldn’t have noticed how upset Kido was.  They’d been together so long that they could read each other’s body language easily, even for those like Kido who kept everything bottled up inside.  Seto, of course, kept almost nothing bottled up inside.  It was only fair to be honest when he could force honesty on anyone else.

He hummed as the other apologized, not really feeling like an apology was needed.  In the end, he’d always come after Kano, no matter what.  Life back at the apartment didn’t feel right without everyone there, anyway.

"It’s no problem! But you should check in now and then so that Danchou isn’t so jumpy.  It’s her you’ll have to apologize to, you know!"  And oh, what a fight that would be when it happened.  He thought it was admirable that Kano was so willing to return to the base and his own demise at the hands of their beloved leader.

{ K } ➤ Oh. Had it really been that funny? Hm, perhaps it was good that everything was a joke to him… Then things like this would not surprise him. Whatever.

“Yeah, I guess I have a pretty bad perception of time, huh?” Laughing coarsely and sheepishly scratching the back of head seemed to pass as honest behavior. But what were the chances that that really existed? “H-hey! Seto-nii, you’re gunna get wet!”

When did the rain start? Strange, he never really noticed it until now. Wow, making Seto come all the way out in this weather was pretty selfish of him. He was something of a narcissist, sure, but not to this degree… Damn.

“Sorry, Seto… A-aah, we should go now, sorry.” How embarrassing. He had really scared them, huh? Stupid. “Danchou… Christ, that woman… Ahaha, do you think she’ll really murder me this time?”

She probably would never go that far, but a severe beating was to be expected. She wouldn’t mean to kill him, but he was pretty stupid and deserved it. Should he be scared? Aaaah, but what was he doing wandering outside anyway? The rain was catching up to him now. Gross. The sweater was beginning to cling to his skin, and his ears were starting to get cold. Blink blink. But Seto was probably going through the same. Wow.

“Ahh, you’re a great older bro! Just like Ayano-chan, aha… Thanks, Seto. For coming, I mean.” They were at the doorstep already. Prepare for the scolding from Danchou, Kano. Prepare whatever dumb mask you plan on showing then.

"…Can you go in first? Just for a bit, I want to see Danchou’s reaction.“

No, he was not stalling, was he?

No, he did not want to see Danchou worried about him, did he?

No, he was scared of her fist, was he?

Oh, right. He was, he did, he was.

       …Don’t lose the smile, idiot.
